News Update – Multimillion Rand Projects for Botshabelo

A huge piece of dusty land in Botshabelo will soon be changed into a haven for the inquisitive and socially active residents of Section N when it is turned into a ‘One-Stop Entertainment’ Centre before the end of the year. The Executive Mayor officially handed over the piece of land for construction to contractors, Sathusa Busi Projects, in full view of the anticipating residents, Councillors and city officials on Thursday 28 February. The first phase of the project will see the construction of an upscale community hall with various facilities to the tune of R13 million. This will be followed by a library in the second phase and a clinic.
“It is only humane that we come to you and find out about your problems, instead of always hearing from the councillors. We heard about your appeal for a hall, and that is the main reason we are here today. Now that the work will start soon, it will be your responsibility to look after the hall and the facilities,” the EM said. The contractor, Mr Masoabi Makhene, also implored the community to work with them for the successful completion of the project. He said if they work together, the project would be completed by the end of October.
“We are going to build this hall with you,” he said to loud applause. After stating that the creation of jobs remains a priority for the city, Clr Manyoni also urged the residents of Section N to consider those who are even more destitute when contract workers are chosen. “Not everyone will get a job with the contract; but please prioritise those who are poorer. If we do not help those who are poorer, there is no hope for us as a society,” he said.
