MEDIA ADVISORY

RE: BRAM FISCHER BUILDING (MMM HEADQUARTERS) TEMPORARILY CLOSED ON MONDAY, 22 JUNE 2020, FOR DECONTAMINATION PROCESS

Residents of Mangaung Metro are hereby notified that an official of the municipality situated at Bram Fischer Building has tested positive for COVID-19. Like all other employees of the City and members of the public visiting the building, the official went through daily screening but never presented any symptoms. The first signs only started showing on Thursday and they went to a private medical facility for testing. The results came back on Saturday and confirmed the official positive for COVID-19. Direct contacts are being traced and have also been screened and tested; we are awaiting their results. The City has thus for precautionary measures and in compliance with the COVID-19 health guidelines decided to temporarily close the building immediately for the public and employees on Monday 22 June 2020.

All services rendered at Bram Fischer will be temporarily unavailable on Monday and operations will resume on Tuesday 23 June 2020. Our first priority as the City is the health and wellbeing of employees and citizens; and we have implemented several robust measures across all regional offices and facilities to prevent the spread of the virus and identity any possible cases as early as possible. These measures include, but are not limited to, the provision of personal protective equipment, sanitisers at all entry points as well as educational and awareness campaigns for staff. Buildings are deep cleaned regularly, and this program will be sustained after the decontamination process. The decontamination process including re-screening of other employees will extend to other municipal buildings from Tuesday 23 June 2020.

Operations at all other regional offices and paypoints of the city will continue as normal. Payment of municipal accounts can alternatively be done via internet banking or at any Nedbank branch. To check balances, go to the municipal website and follow the prompts on “check balances” link. Mangaung Metro apologises for the inconvenience caused.

Ends.
